Sykes & Son were appointed as Principal Contractor to undertake the supply, installation and commissioning of the cooling systems to serve the space directly behind the Samsung Sign at Piccadilly Circus.

The works were complex with intricate routes and careful co-ordination necessary to position the equipment and ductwork configuration within the confined and unusually shaped environment.

Discussions took place prior to our appointment with regards to the best solution for this application. Other signs within the vicinity were cooled via air handling units with cooling coils and distribution ductwork taken into the space.

Our proposal was to cool the space using 3no.Daikin split systems each capable of providing 10kw of cooling. Regular meetings took place on site with the client to ensure that our proposals precisely aligned to the clients wishes.

Sykes proposals were approved and following the appointment, method statements and risk assessments were issued and we were mobilised and on site within one week.

Health and Safety considerations were rigorously interrogated between our QHSE Co-Ordinator and Contracts Manager. Safe methods of access and working were agreed.

All works were completed within 3 weeks and client demonstrations on the equipment were given, operation and maintenance manuals issued and a final handover meeting took place.
