Sykes were appointed as the Principal Contractor on this £3.5m Design and Build project to refurbish the front entrance and 60 ft. high, four storey atrium including reception area and lift lobbies of this central London office complex.

The project involved extensive M&E installations, including new under-floor heating system, smoke extract into the existing riser cupboards, new sprinkler services and high level destratification fans, lighting and small power including high level light fittings fixed to a lux lift system.

Other works included removal of the existing external curtain walling and replacement with structural glass walling, the installation of a partial first floor structural slab and 2no staircases, new frameless glass atrium glazing and complete over cladding of the existing wall finishes. Beaufort House is a 24 hour operational building that was fully occupied and operational during the works. A tunnel was erected to maintain access for occupants throughout the project and protect from risk. The site location meant that deliveries and removal of materials had to be carefully planned, with a Just-In-Time policy in place due to limited storage space.

Work was heavily programmed to minimise noisy works and maintain operation of the entrance at all times. Out of hours and night working was scheduled to increase productivity and reduce the impacts on the commercial and residential properties adjacent to Beaufort House.
