For the 3rd successive year, Sykes & Son were appointed on behalf of the City of London Corporation to complete a refurbishment package including 2 chemistry laboratories and 7 classrooms.

The 10 week programme was incredibly tight, with works across six floors and numerous trades to organise and manage. For the first two weeks of the programme, the school remained in operation. Works had to be carefully sequenced with the schools operation, with high intensity works carried out during school holiday periods.

The works comprised several elements across various areas and across six floors including:
• Refurbishment of 2 chemistry laboratories
• Refurbishment of 7 classrooms.
• Creation of a new bookshop on the ground floor
• Upgrading the photography departments dark room
• Refurbishment of the second floor servery area
• Creation of a new changing room area in the porters lodge
• Installing a spray booth in the art department

Generally the refurbishment works comprised stripping out of all existing furniture, equipment, services, suspended ceilings and floor coverings. The installation of bespoke laboratory furniture, all necessary M&E equipment, new power and lighting, and flooring and decoration works to complete. A new supply and extract ventilation ductwork to serve the laboratories, including new AHU was installed. 2 additional fume cupboards were also installed.

Procurement was a critical aspect of the project delivery with some equipment on long lead-in times. Precise planning and sequencing of works together with carefully timed procurement and delivery, coupled with careful labour resourcing ensured the timely delivery and success of the project.
