Sykes were initially contracted to refurbish two shower blocks whilst students were in occupation. The project was expanded to include further showers together with communal kitchens as part of the LSEs rolling programme of refurbishment works to their accommodation portfolio in central London.

Carr Saunders is one of half a dozen properties in which Sykes have completed repairs and refurbishment work. All work was measured at schedule rates in accordance with our measured term contract with LSE. This arrangement has been adopted for similar refurbishment projects to other LSE halls of residence for which programmes have been agreed for the next academic year.

Works included new Altro non-slip flooring and Whiterock wall cladding, Venesta cubicles and IPS installation, new Magnet kitchens including granite worktops.

Sykes incorporated a number of energy saving measures into the project. These included low energy lighting and timed PIR sensors, push button showers on 30 second timers and water saving shower heads.

Following an extensive survey of the existing ventilation at Carr Saunders by our in-house mechanical and electrical division. Sykes were employed to complete a major overhaul and reconfiguration of the ventilation system. The Sykes team upgraded the inadequate system to improve airflow to the hall of residence.
