The Royal Chapel and the adjacent vaulted crypts are located within the inner curtain wall to the northwest corner of the Tower of London. The chapel is the burial place of three English queens – Anne Boleyn, Katherine Howard and Jane Grey as well as Catholic saints, Thomas More and Bishop John Fisher.

The project was procured via the Historic Royal Palaces framework agreement which is based on a JCT Constructing Excellence contract. This enables the client to use a select few contractors on a shared risk/open-book basis which best suits their high quality requirements.

Works were carried out over a 12-week period with the site in full operation throughout the programme.

Broadly the project included rebuilding of the organ, provision of new furniture within the Chapel and Crypt of Thomas More, provision of new lighting throughout, redecoration of the Chapel and Crypt of Thomas More, cleaning and conservation work to some of the memorials and bespoke joinery installations.

Following the project’s completion, the Chapel was visited by the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh for a private service of thanksgiving.
